Bison, which are often also known as buffalos, are extremely strong, compact wild cattle from North America. The front section of their body is covered in a thick, dark coat.

At a height of more than 1.8 meters and weighing in at more than a ton, bison are trully powerful mammals with curved horns. Bison live in the prairie and feed on different types of plants. The fact that they are herbivores makes no difference to their temper. Bison are known for their aggressiveness and despite their size are surprisingly agile. Bison graze mornings and evenings and doze during the day. Just like rhinos they enjoy rolling in dust or mud. Bisons live together in herds, looking out for wolves and defending the cows and calves against approaching enemies.

Fun fact Bison are herd animals. At full speed they can run up to 55 kilometers per hour.

Schleich toys are made of polyvinyl chloride, PVC. PVC is commonly used in the construction industry for plumbing water lines in homes and businesses. Schleich also adds a softener developed by BASF called Hexamoll® DINCH®. This softener is not only used in toys but also for food packaging and for use in the medical field for blood product packaging and breathing tubes. Schleich complies with international toy regulations and US Federal laws that ban the use of phthalates in children’s toys by only using products from companies that supply laboratory reports concerning the quality of their processes and materials.
